Re: Back Behind The Door
Chiasa giggled softly. "You seem right at home. That's nice to see. Y'know, Teldranis, if you like it so much, you can stay at my house and just come here whenever you like. It's real pretty at dusk, too." She smiled and reached into the water, her fingers just under the surface.

Teldranis considered that. This child clearly needed some sort of caretaker, with her rambunctious ways, and it was true that he would prefer a place of residence... nor was he capable of taking advantage of that hospitality, requiring neither food, nor water, nor even a bed in which to sleep.
"I will consider it." He finally said after a minute of consideration.

"You do a whole lot of considering and thinking and stuff. How come you don't just say 'yes'? Life's too fleeting to spend all your time considering stuff." She leaned over to look in the water and grinned. "Aaaah! Tadpoles!"

Re: Back Behind The Door
"My race... Actually lives for thousands of years. We've learned to take things slowly." Teldranis explained, before realizing Chiasa was already distracted by the tadpoles. Seeing no point in continuing the conversation - Chiasa was clearly no longer interested - he looked over at the Tadpoles himself, watching their bodies swim in awkward spurts of energy.

Re: Back Behind The Door
Chiasa didn't take her eyes off the tadpoles, wiggling her fingers slowly in the water. "Thousands of years...wooow, Teldranis. That's pretty cool. But, totally not what I mean. You can have the expected lifespan of, like, a bajillion years. But anything can happen." As if to prove her point, a koi fish swam up and ate one of the tadpoles. "See? Not all tadpoles get to be frogs. Not for lack of trying, but just 'cause. My dad was healthy, but he died in his sleep. Poof, just like that. But at least he got to enjoy himself before he left...where was I going with this? Aaah. I don't know. Point is, I got a spare room." She giggled and swirled her fingers in the water.

"As I said, I will think about it." Teldranis replied. "There is virtue in patience too..." Teldranis said, pointing to some other tadpoles. "The Tadpoles that take the time to watch for predators, for instance, tend to live longer." He pointed out, as several of the tadpoles scattered away from the Koi.

"Aaaah! Teldranis, you're pretty smart. I'm glad I met you. I guess I can't make ya stay with me. My door's always open to you! And so's the pond. Not many people come by anymore. I think the flowers and fish get a little lonely." Chiasa smiled and leaned a little closer to the water, reaching to touch a turtle swimming by.

Re: Back Behind The Door
Teldranis chose not to mention the fact that the fish would not have the brain functions to be capable of loneliness. "I will visit here often, regardless." He promised her. "This place has a calm to it that the rest of this town does not. It is quite soothing."

Re: Back Behind The Door
Chiasa laughed happily. "Yay! That's good, I think it would be nice to have another person to share this special spot with." She reached a little deeper, aiming to pat the turtle gently, but overshot her reach and lost her balance. Chiasa plunged into the pond with a yelp, before emerging with seaweed in her hair. She smiled sheepishly, treading water. "Oops."

Re: Back Behind The Door
Teldranis almost had a heart attack upon seeing Chiasa fall in. Hiding his shock as he saw Chiasa find her way back to the surface, he nonetheless extended a hand to her, in case she wanted to exit the water. "I'm glad you're able to swim." Teldranis said to her. "You should be careful, though - I don't doubt many of the animals in that pond bite when startled."

"Ehehe. Thanks." She took his hand tightly with a grin. "I don't get bitten. They won't bite me. Simple as that. I swim here a lot, so I think the turtles and fish are used to me by now. You sure are cautious, Teldranis." Chiasa teased him gently and smiled.

Teldranis picked Chiasa up out of the pool gently, watching that he didn't nick her with his claws. They were kept sharp, according to protoss style, and the ebony nails could pierce flesh as well as any human blade. "Caution was amongst the first things taught to me in my life."

Re: Back Behind The Door
Chiasa didn't pay much mind to Tell's claws, aside from looking at them in awe. She truly hadn't seen anyone like him before. Once on dry land, she laughed and pulled the seaweed from her hair. "Oh, jeez." Chiasa pushed the wet hair from her eyes and smiled. "Really? 'Cause it was one of the last things my dad taught me before he died. He taught me a little bit of self-defense, with all that's going on these days. Lucky for me, though, I haven't had to use it much!"

"I'm happy to hear that... And hope you won't find occasion in your life to need it." Teldranis said to her.
He was pleased that this place was not as bleak as it seemed. It had life, it had protectors, and it had a next generation, ready to take the torch.

Chiasa grinned. "I don't really think about it. If I haveta, I haveta. 'Least I can manage on my own in case of an emergency. But since I don't do much or go anywhere, I doubt that'll be a big deal. It gets suuuuper boring, though." She shivered a moment and shook it off. "Brrrrrr. Aaaah! That water was a little chilly, hehe. That'll wake me up."

"Perhaps you should go inside, and replace your clothing with something warmer." Teldranis told her. "The day is already beginning to dim... further." Teldranis pointed out. "[i]It will be colder soon.[/i"

"Ehhh. It can wait! I don't want to leave yet. 'Sides, this place starts to get even prettier the later it gets. It's beautiful at dusk, but I don't think I can stay awake 'til dusk today...but with the sun going down, you'll start to see lightning bugs!" She pointed out a pale, faint yellow light floating in mid air with a giggle. "Not that they're made of lightning or anything like that. It's just their name. They light up 'cause of something called bioluminescence." Chiasa spoke the term slowly, enunciating each syllable.

"I see. A bio-electrical phenomena producing light. Very impressive for such a small organism." Teldranis said, sitting down once again. "I will wait to watch them with you." He told her, his legs crossed, with his arms out in a meditative position.

Re: Back Behind The Door
"Oh, good!" Still enthusiastic, Chiasa's voice seemed to quiet slightly with the descent of the sun. She scooted to sit beside Teldranis. "It's actually a chemical reaction. They use it to attract mates and catch dinner. Pretty cool, huh?" She smiled widely.

Re: Back Behind The Door
"It does seem pretty.... Cool." Teldranis said awkwardly. "On my planet, we had birds that did similar, in order to hunt at night. This ended up startling the Bengalaa kittens quite often, and they'd try to catch them, to no avail, of course." Teldranis told her, caught up in nostalgia.

"Aaaah! You have kitties where you're from?!" Chiasa bounced in place slightly as she spoke, looking up at Tell with wide, attentive eyes. "What do they look like? Are they fluffy?" She was completely in awe of the concept of similar life in other worlds.

"Bengalaa are felines, indeed. They bear resemblance to a terran panther in build, and are mostly black, with the rear of their body being a soft red." Teldranis explained. "Fierce hunters, but they do not hunt Protoss, usually, and are fairly wary of our kind."

Re: Back Behind The Door
"Aaaah! Panthers! That's soooo awesome!" Chiasa had her hands on her cheeks, her head propped up in her hands. "We don't have panthers here in Traverse, but I've seen pictures. Dad kept telling me, "Chi-chi, if you want to see different and interesting things, you should travel. See sights, meet people, bla bla bla!" She had deepened her voice to imitate what one could only assume was her father's voice.

Re: Back Behind The Door
Teldranis would have smiled if he could at Chiasa's antics, but the good mood went away as he next spoke "Aiur is on the other side of the galaxy. I'm unsure if a Terran ship could ever reach it regardless. The distance necessary to move would be enormous for the technology your kind uses."

"Oh, wow. You're a long way from home then, huh? I bet sometimes that must be lonely. Do you miss home? I'd miss home if I ever went that far away. Not that I have too much to leave behind, 'cept memories."
